Organizer Internship
In
1997, PACC initiated a comprehensive commercial revitalization strategy that
targeted a distressed section of Fulton Streets major shopping strip in
Central Brooklyn. To date, PACC has renovated and rented out 13 storefronts
in this area and has facilitated the creation of a merchant’s association to
lead business improvement projects. The Merchant Organizer will work closely
with the Economic Development Program Manager to organize merchants to
implement neighborhood improvement and small business development projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Organize and assist in facilitating monthly merchant association
meetings and events.

Work with merchants and public and private agencies on neighborhood
safety, sanitation, marketing, and beautification projects.

Assist in marketing storefront improvement grants and other business
development programs.

Maintain land use and business ownership database.

Conduct business and shopper surveys. Assist in analyzing survey
results.

Conduct research on commercial revitalization programs and best
practices that can assist in the development and implementation of the
program.
REQUIREMENTS:
-
Excellent interpersonal communication skills: ability to work with
diverse populations.

Strong research, organizational and problem solving skills.
-
Computer literate. Knowledge of graphics and mapping software a plus.

Self-starter able to work independently and in teams.
-
Experience in community or business development and/or organizing a plus
but not required.
